Dental Implants

Do you need a reliable solution for missing teeth? One that looks natural and lets you chew food easily?

Dr. Juan M. Gonzalez at Star City Dental in El Paso, TX, can use implants to give you a smile that is both beautiful and functional.

Take a moment to learn how dental implants can restore your smile and prevent future dental problems...

What Is a Dental Implant?

Dental implants are the most trusted and reliable solution in dentistry for missing teeth. They are the only treatment that can maintain a strong jaw and avoid future dental problems that occur due to the absence of tooth roots. The dental implant itself is a small, screw-like post made out of titanium that is inserted into the jaw. Once it fuses with the bone, it will work just like a tooth root.

A complete tooth restoration includes the dental implant, a connector piece called an abutment, and the restoration (replacement tooth or teeth). The number of implants you need will depend on your restoration, but implants can support a single crown, a bridge, or even dentures. Dr. Gonzalez at Star City Dental in El Paso helps many patients make the move from traditional dentures so they can experience the many benefits of having dental implants securely hold their dentures in place.

Implants are placed into the jawbone tissue, where they become permanently fused over the course of three to six months. Once this process is complete, they can support your crown, bridge, or dentures.

Why Replace Missing Teeth? It's Not Just About Good Looks

Missing teeth make us feel uncomfortable when we smile. But Dr. Gonzalez at Star City Dental in El Paso, TX, points out that when tooth roots are lost, we can end up on a slippery slope that leads to more dental problems. Tooth roots play an important role in stimulating your jawbone, encouraging it to grow new bone tissue and maintain its strength. If you don't replace the tooth and tooth root, you may open the door to these dental problems:

Shifting Teeth

When even just one tooth is lost, the empty tooth socket starts to deteriorate. This can allow nearby teeth to shift into the gap, causing crooked teeth.

Uneven Wear

When missing teeth and deteriorating bone allow teeth to move out of position, your upper and lower teeth no longer meet like they once did. This causes uneven wear.

Facial Collapse

Missing teeth can lead to even more lost teeth.  As the jawbone recedes, the skin on your face sags and your facial features appear sunken, making you look older than you are.

Dental Implant Timeline

Because each case is unique, your timeline may vary, but this is typically what you can expect:
We use quality restoration materials for a beautiful, natural-looking smile.
We use quality restoration materials for a beautiful, natural-looking smile.

Dr. Gonzalez will examine your mouth to determine if dental implants are a suitable solution. If so, he will recommend a trusted El Paso-area oral surgeon to place the implants. Any gum disease or bone loss will need treatment before the implants are placed.

Implant Placement

The treatment area will be numbed so you will be comfortable throughout the implant procedure. A small incision will be made in the gums and the titanium implants will be inserted into the jawbone. It typically takes three to six months for the bone to fuse with the implant, a process called osseointegration.

Abutment Placement & Impression

After osseointegration, the gums will be opened so the connector piece (abutment) can be attached. Once the area has healed, an impression of the treatment area will be taken to guide the design of your restoration. If all you need is a crown, Dr. Gonzalez may be able to design, mill, and place your restoration on the same day using his advanced CEREC® technology.

Restoration Placement

Dr. Gonzalez will inspect the completed restoration for quality and then place it in your mouth to ensure it fits comfortably. Once both of you are pleased with the results, the restoration will be attached and you will once again have a beautiful smile with a secure bite.
